October 21, 1964, I was fortunate to be there, …in New York City, walking around the Staten Island side of this brand new and, at that time, longest suspension bridge in the world. In an hour or two the ribbon cutting would facilitate the official opening, and we would be among the first to cross.
“New York’s Finest” on foot, and on motorcycle, as the latter start one final sweep of the roadway just prior to the official opening.
See Part Two, as we prepare to cross the new bridge, which after 2018 became correctly and officially named as the Verrazzano-Narrows Bridge with two z’s, finally conforming to the explorer’s actual name. Giovanni va Verrazzano was the first documented European explorer to sail through this waterway, in 1524!

EJ; Actually, I was surprised to get these results with these relatively small files, most around 100 KB – compared to my usual 3 to 5 GB today, and in some cases over 20gb. When scanned some 10 or more years ago, the file sizes were adequate for the day – my project at that time involved 15,000 or so slides and took a really long time! 🙂

Again, I’m not saying to use it for these photos as they are good as is, but if you ever need it, the software does a pretty good job (it improved from when I wrote that entry).
Wow. Your bridge pictures are beautiful. I wasn’t there in the 60.s however, I managed to be there for the huge celebration of the 25th Anniversary of the VN Bridge . This one was a fabulous celebration, and the ‘originals’ also were there in the cars that they drove over the bridge. At this anniversary it was too cool, because the bridge was closed off to most vehicular traffic and thousands walked over the bridge that day. I took many pictures that day.. loved the experience since it was the first time that I had ever walked over the VN Bridge. Merry Christmas peace artfromperry

Yes it was originally misspelled. It was an awesome experience, and of note was the insanely cheap crossing toll compared to today. BTW, I love your dog! M:-)
