February 2nd is Groundhog Day here in the United States (and Canada.) Although the tradition begs for a relatively large imagination, lore has it that this particular rodent, Phil, who lives just outside town, can forecast the weather. As it was my wife’s birthday, we added this somewhat iconic town, Punxsutawney, to our weekend road trip through parts of Pennsylvania. So, despite some issues with snow, we did join the throngs of Phil worshippers, and made it back home by nightfall. Oh, and he did NOT see his shadow, indicating an early spring!
Thanks for viewing. Zoom in for a closer look. Comments are always welcome. M :-)
Interesting and great shots as usual! Both of you look great!
Thanks Al. We though of you as we passed by Bethleham on our way out two days before, but were short on time, with all ready too many destinations on our agenda that day. Next Time! M 🙂
I’m not sure what that’s all about 😳 but I like the photos with the snow. Not sure I’d want to go out driving in those conditions…
wow so much snow! I thought he did see his shadow… well it has mostly felt pretty warm for winter in NJ. And we have been getting rain not snow thankfully
With me, it’s not a quest for Punxsutawney Phil himself, but a quest for how to pronounce tat name! 😀
I’d stick with “Phil!” As usual, thanks for the comment. M 🙂
Lisa: I’ve never minded driving in snow, although that morning we needed to cover about 30 miles on back roads leading to Phil’s town which needed slow 100% concentrated attention to keep our lone car in the un-plowed tracks. Jeanne was a bit worried. THAT was slow and tedious , but later the temp rose above 32 deg and driving conditions much improved. Despite that , I love the way fresh snow looks! Thanks as always for your comment. M 🙂
Ggreybeard: My words to Lisa above gives a little idea of what it was like when the road we were on was pretty slick – as seen in the first image above. Thanks as always for your comment. And hope the fire conditions are easing in your area. M 🙂
Always fun driving in bad weather . . . unless other drivers — lesser drivers, always — are out and about aggravating us good drivers.
Happy belated birthday and Groundhog Day.
Nice pictures. I especially like the second one. Looks cold though! 🙂
