Bird On A Wire

A while ago, I had taken this picture, not thinking much about it until coming across it later and thinking that this gull was really good at balancing on the wire. Calm, cool and …just casually sitting on the wire! Here’s an example of how a one dimensional photo lacks the extra information gained by depth perception. Do you see it?

Thanks for viewing, zoom in for a closer look, and comments are always welcome. M 🙂

  1. I’ve often wondered if birds perch on overhead wires to feel the warmth generated by the current. In this case it’s hard to tell if the bird is sitting on the insulator or standing on the post.

    1. He’s actually standing on the post. I don’t think I’ve ever seen a Sea Gull on a residential wire – just too heavy. Smaller birds, yes, …all the time. I am impressed, however, at how Sea Gulls can stand on the peaks of roofs, in fairly stiff winds, without losing their balance. Sea Gulls seem to be vain, in that they won’t let themselves be seen falling over! M 🙂

    1. Levitating.. yes, these Sea Gulls always seem to want to one – up themselves in the company of other sea gulls, in this case like he’s looking down a ways a bit to be sure the other gulls see how talented he is! But in this case, in reality, he’s just standing on the flat top of the pole! M 🙂
